When a second opinion is worth arranging

  • You have been told you have UPJ obstruction but are unsure whether surgery is needed.
  • You have been offered open pyeloplasty and want to know whether a robotic or laparoscopic repair is suitable.
  • You have had a previous laser endopyelotomy that has not worked.
  • You want a clearer explanation of the MAG3 renogram, the percentage of function in the affected kidney, or what would happen if you delay.
  • Your symptoms do not fit the imaging findings and you would like a fresh look.

What to send

  • A referral from your GP or treating urologist (required for Medicare rebates).
  • CT urogram images (disc or PACS link) and the radiology report.
  • MAG3 diuretic renogram report, if performed.
  • Any previous operation reports on the kidney or urinary tract.
  • A short note on your main concern and what you would like to decide.

How it works

  1. Call the rooms on (02) 8382 6980 or email Raji.Kooner@svha.org.au to arrange an appointment.
  2. Drop off or upload your imaging ahead of the consultation so Dr Kooner can review it in advance.
  3. At the consultation, Dr Kooner explains the findings, outlines the options, and gives you a written summary to take back to your referring doctor.

Discuss your UPJ obstruction pathway

The rooms can arrange a consultation to review imaging, confirm obstruction with a drainage study, and outline which pyeloplasty approach fits your situation.
